Setup PC Inventory File System

Purpose: In the 4.6 update to the Novo Solutions PC Inventory module there were enhancements that took advantage of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) in order to acquire system data for Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.

In the previous version of PC Inventory Vista and Windows 7 operating systems were not supported due to changes in how the operating system handles user profiles. If you have upgraded from version 4.5 or prior, you will need to make a few changes with regard to the pc inventory file system and database tables. Please see the directions below:

Prerequisites:  PC Inventory module is purchased and is licensed

Steps:

Setup File System and Login Script for PC Inventory

  1. Browse to NovoRoot
  2. Rename pc_inventory directory

    • Note: You may want to unshare the pc_inventory\current directory prior to renaming

  3. Go into NovoRoot/app and copy pc_inventory to Novo root
  4. Recreate share
  5. Domain login script considerations:

    • If you were using the pc_invent.bat file for network login, See the related article "PC Inventory Scripting" for steps to modify its contents.
    • If you simply added the command in the pc_invent.bat  file to your existing login script(s), please remove it and use the commands in the related PC Inventory Scripting article.

Clear out PC Inventory Tables

  1. In order for the updated PC Inventory to work correctly, please clear out the PC Inventory tables by running the following against your Novo database:

    • DELETE from AM_PC2Customers
      DELETE from AM_PC_Software

Note: This will not affect your Asset records.
