Search Relevance

Purpose: Relevance tells us about how often the word/phrase to be searched is mentioned in the target text/fields.

Prerequisites: Admin->Setup->Settings: Knowledge Base->Search Settings
Enable Search Relevance is checked.

Steps:

Search relevance is received from the full text search results or from MS Indexing server if searched words are found in indexed file attachments.

You can enable or disable the display of the search relevence value on the Search Results in Knowledge Base Settings: . When this setting is enabled, search results will be returned with a "Relevance Rank" as shown below.

However, regardless of this setting, the search results are always displayed in descending order of relevance; with the most relevant articles at the top.  It's also helpful to note that we display results for content found in articles in descending order of relevance, then we display results for content found in indexed attachments in descending order of relevance.

So if your environment is indexing attachments, and a search term returned results where the term was found in articles and attachments, the results would be displayed as follows:

Article content with high relevance
Article content with medium relevance
Article content with low relevance
Attachment content with high relevance
Attachment content with medium relevance
Attachment content with low relevance

The attachments would be found toward the end of the results regardless of there relevance in comparison to article content.
