Searchable Office Documents - Configuring Your Server to Index Attachments in Novo Enterprise Products

In order for Documents to be found when Knowledge Base users enter a search string, they will need to be "Indexed" on the web server.  At the time of this writing, there are two methods for indexing documents on Microsoft servers; MS Indexing and Windows Search.

If you are using Windows Server 2003, you have a choice.  You can use either MS Indexing or Windows Search.  However, you will want to use Windows Search if your organization will be attaching 2007 or 2010 Office Documents with the *.***x extension; (i.e. *.docx, *.xlsx, *.pptx, etc.) as MS Indexing will not index these files.

It should also be noted that if you are using Windows 2008 Server, MS Indexing is not supported and you are forced to use Windows Search.

Use the article below that matches your environment to configure your server and the Novo app to search Attachments. when visitors to your site enter a search string.

We've also included documentation that describes how to return non-attached documents on a Knowledge Base search (External Indexing).
