Knolwedge Base Search Settings



Permissions Description
 Default Basic Search Action Choose how the Basic Search function, at the upper left of the Knowledge Base main window, will search for Knowledge Base articles. The choices are:
  • All of the words entered
  • Any of the words entered
Number of articles on the Search page This setting configures how many articles will appear on each result page.
Open Articles from Search Results in a New Window Check this box to open an article from Search Results in a new window.
Auto Display Single Search Result Choose this option to automatically display results of a single search.
 Enable Highlights on Search Results If checked, search terms will be highlighted on the Search Results page. 
Enable Search in External Path for Public View Choose this option to allow public users to perform search in files, which are not connected to articles. The path to these files is specified in the External Path option.
Enable Natural Language for Advanced Search When enabled, words entered into the "Natural Language Table" will be ignored when using the "Advanced Search" feature. See the related articles below to learn more about "Natural Language".
Enable Natural Language for Basic Search When enabled, words entered into the Natural Language table will be ignored when using the Basic Search feature.
Enable Thesaurus for Advanced Search When enabled, words entered into the Thesaurus will be used when using the Advanced Search feature. See the related article below to learn more about "The Thesaurus".
Enable Thesaurus for Basic Search When enabled, words entered into the Thesaurus will be used when using the Basic Search feature.
Enable Search Relevance This setting, when checked, will enable Search Relevance. See the related articles below to learn more about "Search Relevance ".  
Enable Search Log When enabled the Knowledge Base will automatically log the Search Phrase, Date, Language, User, Ip address, and Number of matches of every search run on the Knowledge Base.
Number of items on the Search Log This will configure the number of entries displayed on the Search Log.
Search in attachment This setting, when checked, tells the KnowledgeBase to search attachments in addition to articles. Searchable attachments are *.ppt, *.pdf, *.txt, *.doc, and *.xls. See the related articles below to learn more about "Searchable Attachments".
Indexing Service Catalog Name Enter a name for the indexing service catalog. See the related articles below to learn more about "Searching External Files".
External Path Enter the path to an external folder to perform external search.
